Built on a solid 110-year foundation, the Faculty of Engineering offers a broad range of graduate and undergraduate programs, including co-op, across seven departments, with over 100 faculty members, 560 graduate students, and over 2,000 undergraduate students. The new Dean of Engineering will be joining Dalhousie during its bi-centennial celebrations in 2018, and will be overseeing the implementation of programming in the Faculty’s new dynamic academic, research, and innovation spaces.

As a key member of the University’s senior leadership team, the Dean plays a crucial role in maintaining the standards, integrity, effectiveness and efficiency of the academic enterprise. While fostering a collegial and respectful environment, the Dean provides academic and administrative leadership of the Faculty, promotes faculty and staff development, participates in institutional policy-making and management, promotes good external relations, supports a vibrant learning environment, and contributes to fundraising activities. The Dean also maintains and enhances strong and productive partnerships with external constituencies, including federal and provincial governments, industry, other universities, community groups and Engineers Nova Scotia.

The successful candidate must have a record that demonstrates a deep commitment to excellence in research and teaching, a track record of outstanding senior administrative leadership, and will have a documented history of success in external relations and community engagement. The new Dean will need to have excellent communication skills and be able to engage and inspire the engineering community both at Dalhousie University and throughout the region. The successful candidate must be eligible to be licensed as a professional engineer, be qualified for appointment at the rank of full professor and hold a graduate level degree, preferably a doctorate.
