Student Team Competition Funding Program

The Canadian Society for Bioengineering Foundation offers funding to eligible student teams that participate in a recognized bioengineering competition. The Foundation thereby encourages students to gain team work experience and to learn by comparing their efforts and ideas with others. Such projects also provide visibility for engineering and its role in improving agriculture, the food system and the environment.

2011 CSBE/SCGAB Annual Conference

The Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) invites you to the 2011 CSBE/SCGAB Annual Conference that will take place July 10-13, 2011 in Winnipeg, MB. The Conference will be held at the Inn at the Forks located at the historic junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers in downtown Winnipeg. “Growing Renewable Energy” has been selected as the theme for the Conference.  A full day of the Conference will be devoted to industry tours that fit within this theme. At this point, the LAC would like to encourage you to consider sharing the results of your research at the Conference.  Any research relevant to the Society will be included in the technical program; however, we are particularly interested in soliciting papers in the following areas that relate to our theme of “Growing Renewable Energy”:

siloCement based materials play a key role in the development of modern agriculture. The sustainability of today’s agriculture is strongly related to construction materials, their quality and durability. Nowadays, the social emphasis is for a more sustainable agriculture. This factor will influence the selection of materials for agricultural buildings and structures. Due to the environmental footprint of cement production and, in some cases, to its premature deterioration, does concrete can still fulfill a fundamental role in agricultural facility construction? This symposium will provide a great venue to share and discuss information relating to concrete construction. The main topics discussed at the symposium will help to answer these questions and much more!

Notice to members (Summer 2010)

From time to time various agencies request that the CSBE/SCGAB office supply the list of members for the distribu-tion of certain products. Your Secretary, James Townsend, is reluctant to do so since we all have too much spam as it is. My approach will be to list the agencies, and their products, in each Perspectives Newsletter so that members can make personal contact with the agencies if they so wish.
