The Board of Directors would like to draw your attention to a recent decision regarding changes to the pricing of the CBE Journal pages and the compensation policy.
Item 2: Revision to Page Charges for Canadian Biosystems Engineering Journal
We currently have differential page charges ($50/page for the first 4 pages and $80/page for each page thereafter). It is proposed that page charges be changed to a flat rate of $75/page for each page of a paper + the translation fee (effective for papers submitted from February 2019). For example, a manuscript of 8 pages would increase from $520 to $600.
The rationale for increasing the page charges is to help offset revenue that is to be lost due to the proposed Canadian Biosystems Engineering Remuneration Policy (see Item 3 below).
Question to Members of Council: Do you approve of the proposed revision to page charges for the Canadian Biosystems Engineering Journal?
Responses: 9 responded in favour of the proposed revision to page charges; 0 responded against the proposed revision.
Item 3: Canadian Biosystems Engineering Remuneration Policy
The following is proposed for remuneration for tasks associated with publication of papers in our Canadian Biosystems Engineering journal. Remuneration is intended 1) to improve the timeliness of paper review and 2) increase the number of papers being published in our Canadian Biosystems Engineering journal. Council previously approved the concept of a credit voucher for manuscript reviewers – this is an attempt to establish a framework that will continue to improve the timeliness of paper review and hopefully lead to a great number of publications in our journal.
Members of the Editorial Panel
- A reviewer from the Editorial Panel or an external reviewer will receive a credit voucher of $50 for providing a thorough review for each paper that is reviewed within a 3-week period from the initial request. The thorough review should include a clear and detailed statement outlining their rationale for acceptance/rejection. The acceptable standard of review to qualify for the credit voucher will be determined by the Editorial Board.
- The credit vouchers accumulated by the Member of the Editorial Panel, or any other Reviewer, can be applied to any CSBE/SCGAB expense (i.e., page charges for a future paper submitted by that Member of the Editorial Panel, conference registration at a future CSBE/SCGAB AGM, or CSBE/SCGAB membership dues).
- Sections Editors will receive a credit voucher of $300 upon publication of three papers handled by them within that volume (year).
- The credit vouchers accumulated by the Section Editor can be applied to page charges for a future paper submitted by the Section Editor.
