International Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology

Dr. Venkatesh Meda, Associate Professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering Department, spearheaded the signing of an International Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT), Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India in June 2010. He was a part of the Saskatchewan delegation to India that was led by the Honourable Rob Norris, Saskatchewan Minister for Advance Education, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation. There will be collaborative R & D initiatives including joint exchanges of faculty, students and researchers.

Dr. Meda pursued his on-going R & D effort with the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), I.I.T. Campus, Mumbai with whom a MOA has already been developed. He was an invited speaker at several Conferences/Workshops including: IICPT, Tanjore; UDCT, Mumbai; Madras University, Chennai; Lakshminarayana Institute of Technology, Nagpur; ICAR, Government of India and in Europe, at the ATB, Potsdam, Germany; and BOKU, Vienna. In February, Dr. Meda attended a Workshop at Ege University, Turkey as part of ISEKI-Mundus EU Project underway on “Integrating Safety and Environment (ISEKI) in Global Food Studies”.

Welcome to Dr. Sharanakumar Hiregoudar, Visiting faculty from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, Karnataka, India. He will be working with Dr. V. Meda on Emerging Technologies in Agri-Food Processing; includ-ing Nano applications for six months starting August 2010.
