2015 Young Engineer of the Year award

Dr. Suresh Neethirajan is currently a registered Professional Engineer with the province of Ontario, and an Assistant Professor in the Biological & Biomedical Engineering program of the University of Guelph and serving as the Director of the BioNano Laboratory. He joined the University of Guelph in 2011 after working as a Research Engineer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory of United States, and also as a Research Scientist at the National Food Research Institute of Japan. Dr. Suresh graduated from the University of Manitoba with both his PhD and master's degree in Biosystems Engineering. Recently, he was awarded the 2014 Early Researcher Award by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, 2015 Young Engineer Achievement Award by Engineers Canada. The BioNano Laboratory headed by Suresh is focused on investigating pathogenic biofilms using nanotechnology approaches, and developing bioinstrumentation tools for clinical animal health diagnostics, and food safety applications. Suresh is a member of Canada's National Nanotechnology Standards Committee, and the chair of ASABE’s IET-312 sub-committee of Emerging Information Systems. Suresh serves in the Executive Board of the Grand River Chapter and the Academic Requirements Committee of PEO. Suresh has been invited by the Parliament of Canada as an expert witness for enacting Bill S-11 regarding standards for nanotechnology in agriculture and food. He has published over 120 technical papers including 50 peer reviewed international high impact journal papers, 5 book chapters, 2 United States Patent, and has supervised over 20 undergraduate students, 5 MSc students and 2 PhD students.

Dr. Suresh Neethirajan est actuellement un ingénieur professionnel enregistré dans la province de l'Ontario, professeur adjoint dans le programme biologie et génie biomédical de l'Université de Guelph et directeur du Laboratoire BioNano à la même université. Il a rejoint l'Université de Guelph en 2011 après avoir travaillé comme ingénieur de recherche au Laboratoire national d'Oak Ridge aux États- Unis et comme chercheur scientifique à l'Institut national de recherche alimentaire du Japon. Dr. Suresh est diplômé de l'Université du Manitoba, à la fois pour son doctorat et sa maîtrise en génie des biosystèmes. Récemment, le Ministère de la Recherche et de l'Innovation ontarien lui a décerné le Prix du nouveau chercheur 2014 et Ingénieurs Canada le Young Engineer Achievement Award 2015. Le Laboratoire BioNano utilise la nanotechnologie pour étudier les biofilms pathogènes, pour le développement de bio-instruments utilisés pour les diagnostics en santé animale et certaines applications en sécurité alimentaire. Suresh est membre du Comité national de normalisation en nanotechnologie du Canada et est aussi le président du IET-312, sous-comité Emerging Information Systems de l’ASABE. Suresh s’implique également au sein du Conseil d'administration du chapitre Grand River et au Comité des exigences académiques du PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario). Suresh a été invité par le Parlement du Canada en tant que témoin expert pour la promulgation du projet de loi S-11 concernant les normes pour les nanotechnologies en agriculture et alimentation. Il a publié plus de 120 articles techniques, dont 50 révisés par les pairs dans des journaux internationaux d’importance, 5 chapitres de livres, 2 brevets aux États-Unis et a supervisé plus de 20 étudiants de premier cycle, 5 étudiants à la maîtrise et 2 au doctorat.
